Mourning Dove

The birds have been especially busy on and around the feeders. The Mourning Doves prefer to feed on the ground and do a nice job of cleaning up the fallen seed from the other birds.

Hanging On

Pretty much all of the leaves have fallen, but there are one or two trees around that just refuse to give up their colors. This tree was especially brilliant.

Turkeys

Almost everyday, we see turkeys in the field across the road. This was part of a flock of about 20 birds.

Fungus

I discovered this beautiful fungus growing on our pool fence.

Flying Geese

We are seeing the geese fly over daily. They love the corn field across the road which has been chopped. When they fly over low, you can hear their wings whistle. I love living in the country.

Mist in the Valley

Saturday morning, early, we headed out to visit friends in Maine. As we hit the top of Hogback Mountain, the sun was coming up and the view was gorgeous. The fog had settled in the valleys and fall colors were lovely. Brian stopped long enough to let me take a few shots.

Fuzzy Wuzzy

This little guy was crawling across our picnic table. After some research, we have decided it is a Banded Tufted Tussock Moth...that is a mouth full. He was very pretty.

Moth

This little guy stopped and rested on my computer screen. He stayed there for quite a while. Thankfully he was towards the top of the screen. so I didn't have to bother him.

Frogs

Here are a view of the frogs that Gabe gathered while visiting the pond. It was amazing to see all the different frogs and the different stages of development. We just love God's creation.

Summer Visitors

We have had a couple of little frogs move into our garden pond. It is so nice to have them visit.

Crabs and Whelks

We do a lot of collecting while at the coast. Here is a jar with whelks and crabs. The kids enjoy being able to observe things up close. (We let the little guys go.)

Seaweed

This tidal pool at the most wonderful collection of algae and seaweed. What an abundance of life in these little pools.

Plants on the Rocks

It always amazes me to find plants growing right out of the rocks. Some hardy plants seem to be able to grow anywhere.

Daisy

We have a lot of wonderful wildflowers along our road. These lovely daisies and buttercups made a nice little grouping.

Dragonfly

Gabe rescued this dragonfly from our pool. It had gotten it's wings wet and couldn't get off the water. I sat for quite a while with it perched on my finger. I think dragonflies are so lovely and their wings incredibly beautiful.

Swallowtails

There have been several of these yellow swallowtail butterflies flitting around our Korean Lilac bush the last few days. The butterflies just love this bush and there have been several different types visiting.

Spider

Gabe spotted this spider trying to tie up a caterpiller hanging off the trampoline. The spider worked for quite a while, but finally wrapped the whole thing up into a nice bundle and then sucked him dry! It was quite interesting to watch.
